Ales Rarus Taps Outs. Deletes me from comments section....

I actually posted my rebuttal in the comments section of Ales Rarus' site. And like all good fundamentalists if he sees something he doesn't like he stamps it out. I mean, he is the PH D candidate, what is he afraid of...? Perhaps they'll be restored...

Update: The comments reappeared again hours later! It's a miracle of the Lord...Slaughter the Red Cow at once! Or, I should have refreshed the comments in Haloscan, a notoriously clunky comments function. Consider an apology forwarded, not that I haven't been banned by many a decent and some not so decent people...

WHOA!!!! Ask before you assume. I did not, nor do I intend to, delete any comment of yours or anyone else. I've yet to have sufficient reason to yank anyone. I hope I never do. Do me and the rest of the blogosphere a favor and think before you post libelous accusations.

I'm looking at my Haloscan controls right now and everything I responded to is still there. If you posted something else, it must have gotten mangled somehow because I neither saw it nor deleted it.

As you notice, I never censor people! Even if they're threatening to sue me. For future reference, I'm not all that concerned about lawsuits from people who don't use their real names on their websites, Funky Dung, if that is your real name...

Did I say lawsuit? Nope. I'd have to be pretty full of my own self-importance to do that. A libel is "a false publication, as in writing, print, signs, or pictures, that damages a person's reputation." (dictionary.com). It can have legal implications, but I wasn't intending any. Telling the world that I censor people's comments, when that is not true, could damage my reputation as a blogger. As for my real name, it's on my page. I don't hide it. I just don't use it because it's not memorable and I'm not well known like Hugh Hewitt or Andrew Sullivan. Using a pseudonym is basically standard blogging practice for those who aren't already well known.

BTW, I think a retraction is in order. I can't make you write one, but I think it'd be the courteous thing to do. I have shown no discourtesy to you. I'm still more than happy to read your thoughts in my comments. I'd like to end this bizarre exchange amicably, though, and I believe an apology for posting ill-founded conclusion is called for.

"Haloscan, a notoriously clunky comments function"I've had very few problems with it and you can't beat the price. ;)
